ABOUT THE ROLE:
As an Online Engineer, you will be working with the design and engineering teams to deliver multiplayer features and core technology features. You will work with the lead engineer to establish high-level goals for the online engineering team and directly with the dev team to plan and deliver multiplayer and network features.
Our ideal candidate is an expert network programmer who is passionate about their craft, autonomous, skilled in C++, and has a proven track record in games development.
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
- Lead the development of multiplayer features and underlying network technology.
- Develop core networking and engine features within our custom, proprietary engine.
- Work closely with other game disciplines to deliver robust, optimised multiplayer/network features.
- Create pipelines and tools for deploying and maintaining dedicated game servers.
- Become a key collaborator who can work effectively within a large multi-disciplined team.
- Stay up to date with industry trends and best practices related to multiplayer programming techniques and technologies.
WHAT YOU’LL BRING:
- Online Multiplayer Engineering experience, with demonstrable work on at least one published title (ideally AAA).
- Familiarity with different network models such as client server and peer to peer
- Low level network principles: Sockets, NAT, UDP, TCP/IP
- Higher level networking systems experience such as matchmaking, server hosting & game network services (Steam, Xbox Live)
- Strong proficiency in the C++ programming language and object-oriented design principles
- Previous experience working in games or closely related software field.
- Excellent task planning and delivery mindset.
- A genuine passion for video games.
